Panic Attacks are Not God's Design For Us
Panic attacks bring an overwhelming sense of fear and helplessness, disrupting the peace that God intends for each of us. In 2 Timothy 1:7, it says, 'For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.' This is a reminder that fear and panic are not from God, who desires us to live courageously and calmly in His presence. Panic isolates us from this peace, and if left unaddressed, it can draw us away from our reliance on God's strength and guidance, fostering more feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. God designed us to walk in trust, especially when faced with overwhelming circumstances. While He does not expect us to ignore our anxieties, He offers us refuge and wisdom to overcome them. Panic attacks reveal our need for His peace and remind us of the importance of placing our trust in Him rather than our fears. God desires us to be free from the chains of panic so that we may fully embrace the life He has prepared for us, relying on His power and not our own to conquer the fears within.
Jesus Helps with Panic Attacks
Jesus is called the 'Prince of Peace' (Isaiah 9:6), a promise of calm amid the storms of life. He reassures us in John 14:27, 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.' Jesus offers us a peace that surpasses understanding, encouraging us to focus on His presence rather than the panic that threatens us. He invites us to lay down our burdens at His feet and find rest in Him. Through His love and sacrifice, Jesus assures us that He is with us in every moment of fear and anxiety. He understands our suffering and promises to walk with us, bringing calm into our chaos. By seeking Him during these intense times, we can experience the peace He offers and feel the comfort of His constant presence, helping to reduce the power of panic over us.
Prayer
Lord, I come to You in my moment of need, feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Please calm my heart and give me the strength to focus on Your presence. I surrender my fears and panic to You, trusting that You are my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Fill me with Your peace and remind me that I am safe in Your care. Help me to rely on You and remember that You are greater than any fear I may face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
