Low Self-Esteem

Low Self-Esteem is Not God's Design For Us

Low self-esteem is not in God's design for us because it distorts the way we see ourselves, contrary to the truth that we are created in His image. Genesis 1:27 tells us, 'So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.' This foundational truth means we each carry an inherent value that God placed within us. When we believe lies about our worth or look down on ourselves, we are stepping away from God's design and seeing ourselves in a way that does not honor His craftsmanship. Furthermore, low self-esteem distracts us from God’s purpose for us. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are His 'workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand.' When we struggle with low self-esteem, we may avoid stepping into the roles and opportunities God has for us, out of a belief that we are not 'enough.' In truth, we are fully equipped and capable in His strength, not our own, and He wants us to embrace His love and purpose, breaking away from the chains of self-doubt.

Jesus Helps with Low Self-Esteem

Jesus addresses the human heart and self-worth with deep compassion. In Matthew 10:29-31, He reminds us of our worth by saying, 'Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.' Jesus not only acknowledges our worth but actively reassures us of God's intimate knowledge and love for us, regardless of how we may perceive ourselves. Additionally, Jesus teaches us to rest our identity in Him, not in the world's standards or opinions. He says in John 15:9, 'As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.' By abiding in His love, we are called to let go of our insecurities and embrace the truth that our value is not defined by achievements or failures but by His unchanging love. Jesus offers the answer to low self-esteem by calling us to trust in His perfect acceptance and affirmation.

Prayer

Father God, I come to You feeling low and unsure of myself. Please help me see myself as You see me, loved and valued beyond measure. Remind me daily of Your truths and help me let go of thoughts that don't align with Your word. I ask that You would fill me with confidence rooted in Your love and purpose for me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
